Daily Dose - Meerkat Becoming More 'Mavericky'

The third alpha release of Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" is upon us.  Based on the 2.6.35 Linux kernel, Ubuntu 10.10 a3 has updated to GNOME 2.31 and the Qt 4.7 beta.  The software center has gotten a 'featured' and 'what's new' carousel in the frontpage.  Xfce4 was updated to the current 4.6.2 release, and the unity interface is now the default in Ubuntu's Netbook Edition.

Google Wave Dampens
Today Google announced the halting of development on Google Wave.  CEO Eric Schmidt talked about the failed project with optimism, and told his audience that for Google, trying to develop an innovative idea and then having it fail to be adopted is okay.  "We celebrate our failures," he said.  The goal now, he says, is for Google to learn from this experience and find other areas where they can use the technology developed for Google Wave.

Hibernate 3.6 Next Release
The second beta of Hibernate 3.6 is now available, with the primary change being the merger of AnnotationConfiguration into just 'Configuration'.  The documentation, which includes the annotations reference manual, is also coming along nicely.  The second beta also overrides equals() and fixes hashCode() in AliasToBeanResultTransformer.

Qooxdoo 1.1.1 and 1.2!  Woo Hoo!
The 1.1.x branch of Qooxdoo received an update and 1.2 just arrived as well. The entire manual is now in SVN and a new virtual list was added that can handle large numbers of items.  The cross-browser inspector now has a Selenium window and the API Viewer now allows you to open distinct tabs for any class or package description.
