OCZ Vertex 3 Vs Vertex4
I own both a Vertex3 256GB and a Vertex 4 256, and people usually ask me if the vertex 4 is really faster than vertex 3, or difference in performance are really little. I think it is difficult to answer this question, I can only post you Cristal Diskmark test for both drive when they are completely empty.
This is the Vertex 3

And this is the Vertex 4
From the test I can tell you that the Vertex 4 has a great increase of performance in Write Speed, and a real gain of performance in 4K QD32 tests. I had also a Vertex 2 and I was really satisfied with performance and reliability of OCZ drive, and I should admit that the Vertex 4 performances are really really huge.
Do not forget that such a drive needs a good Sata controller or you can suffer performance loss, as I described in an old post.
If you work heavily with Visual Studio or you run quite often Virtual Machines, having a fast SSD is a must.

Hi,
you have not done the same test on these two SSD :p (2*500MB vs 2*100MB). What happens on heavy loads ? (like 40*10GB)
In general, SSDs are great and there's not significant difference between models and generations. Simply buy the most stable (e.g. avoid OCZ and prefer Intel, Samsung, Crucial...) and/or the cheaper.
Programs like CrystalDiskMark are good to check that the SSD has normal performances, only. They are not designed to provide analyses that reflect real cases.

You are right, I've done the test after long time, and the default setting of Crystal were changed, I replay the same test 2x500 and the result are quite the same (some numbers are even higher on Vertex4 with 500MB test file).
For the stability, I own a ocz vertex 2, three year runs on three different machine and never had problem, vertex 3 and 4 are stable and runs quite 14 hours a day for months. Ocz first firmware for Vertex 2 has really lots of problem, but now it is really stable.
Generally speaking 256 GB are really faster than 128, and you gain also difference in performance between generations, even if you fail to notice in standard usage. Since I'm mainly a developer, it is not useful to understand what happens with big file (10 GB), I'm interested in random load and write (database, compiling, etc). :)
