This week, AnandTech published a detailed benchmark of Apple's new A7 processor for its new iPhone 5S. AnandTech ran a number of different benchmarks on the A7 and compared it to other popular mobile CPUs. In the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark, a popular performance benchmark among hardware manufactors, the A7 broke AnandTech's record for the benchmark, beating out Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 and ARM's Cortex A15.

In other benchmarks, including Mozilla's Kraken benchmark and Google's Octane benchmark, the A7 was beaten only by Intel's Atom Z3770, a processor aimed primarily at tablets. In the final benchmark AnandTech ran, Browsermark 2.0, the A7 was again the most performant. According to AnandTech, the A7 performs roughly 25% better than the iPhone 5 in this benchmark. The A7 partially owes its performance boost to its 64-bit architecture, a first for a specifically-mobile processor.
