Dev of the Week: Raymond Camden
Hi Raymond! Thanks for talking to us. What have you been working on lately?
I've been very interested in data storage on the client. Basically DOM Storage, Web SQL, and IndexedDB. I work at a company that is doing some pretty amazing things with CSS, but I'm more of a data nerd. I also spend a lot of time working with PhoneGap. This is an open source (under Apache Cordova) SDK for mobile development with web technology.
Are there any developer tools or resources that you couldn't live without?
Easy - Chrome Dev Tools. It makes client-side development so much easier. I'm also paying attention more and more to Firefox. I switched from Firefox to Chrome a few years back, but Firefox has been getting kinda cool lately.
Do you have a favorite open source project (or projects) at the moment?
Yep, Brackets. (See above.) Obviously I'm biased as this was started by my company, but I really dig an editor I can actually go into and hack on. I've been mainly focused on writing extensions (things that add functionality to Brackets). Most recently I worked on another developers extension to add MDN (Mozilla Dev Network) support to the editor. This lets you select a tag, like blockquote, and then load up the MDN reference directly within the editor.
Do you have a favorite blogger?
Christian Heilmann, an evangelist for Mozilla. As I said above, I had been kind of ignoring Firefox and Mozilla lately. Not because I disliked them, but, I just got caught up in focusing on just Chrome. I've been following Christian for a while now and he is part of the reason I'm paying a lot more attention to Mozilla.
You mention on your DZone profile that you're "somewhat of a Star Wars nut." How are you feeling about Episode 7?
Ah, an important question. ;) I *love* Star Wars, but I have no delusions about it being the highest form of art out there. There's good Star Wars material, great Star Wars material, and crap too. The prequels were no where near as cool as I had hoped, but honestly, there was no chance in hell of them meeting my expectations. I'm going to go into episode 7 with an open mind. As it stands, I think Disney did an incredibly good job with Tron 2, so I'm kinda hopeful.
