Sun Microsystems released: OpenSSO Express Edition version 8 and OpenDS Standard Edition version 2

By realising  a new version of OpenSSO project with commercial support Sun takes another big step ahead in providing highly integrated and reliable identity management and single sign on solutions based purely on open source projects.

OpenSSO express edition is OpenSSO community edition which gone through more QA to ensure its stability and reliability in the production environment. OpenSSO express edition is free for commercial use but when you need commercial support from Sun Microsystems  you can sing a contract and get a 24*7 support from Sun Microsystems. Each new release of OpenSSO express edition come 6 months after the previous one and brings many of new features and capabilities developed in OpenSSO community into an stable and commercially supported release.

Enterprises that do not need cutting edge technologies can consider using OpenSSO Enterprise  edition which is more reliable but with longer release cycles.

OpenDS is an enterprise ready and pure Java LDAP server supported by largest vendor of directory servers to give customers a choice between a Sun Java Directory Server Enterprise Edition which is a closed source product and OpenDS 2 which is an open source product and uses OpenDS code base.  OpenDS version 2 which forms the OpenDS standard edition code base is a big step ahead for OpenDS project and brings many new features like assured and multi-master replication on the table for large scale use cases.
