well it plays a part
i'd rather use something that is easy on the eye than something that is not. but i would take functionality/reliability over that.
it's just that netbeans offers nothing more than a more visually attractive ide can.

If i'm going to look at that window all day long, then yes, it is an important factor, especially when the tool is not the only one on the market.

Good thing that NetBeans is beautiful then.

[/quote]Completely right. I didn't mean that, I just think a GUI is "beautiful enough" if it does not hurt my eyes , I soon get so used to the GUI that I just "don't see it". In other words, if it is organized, intuitive, fast, and has every feature I need... I would not discard it because ugly icons or an unusual color scheme (BTW, i'm an eclipse user myself).
By the way, I join the "what's so ugly about netbeans?", the color scheme? the controls? if so, you can always use an alternative look and feel.

Netbeans is the crappiest IDE out there. Eclipse isn't perfect but, it is head and shoulders above Netbeans. IntelliJ is better than either but, I would understand not paying for something that is close enough like Eclipse.
Stop your co-workers from getting dumbed down by Netbeans and their kool-aid drinkers.
